Performance of Lisa Neville, Minister for Community Services
I rise to grieve for the thousands of vulnerable Victorians who are not getting the services, care and support they need and deserve because the Minister for Community Services, who is also the Minister for Mental Health, is clearly not up to the job.
Community sector: Portable long service leave
This government and the Minister for Community Services are seriously mishandling the delivery of a 2008 promise to introduce a portable long service leave program for the community sector.
Children: protection
I raise a matter for the urgent attention of the Minister for Community Services. The action I seek is for her to commission a comprehensive independent judicial inquiry into child protection.
Minister for Mental Health: performance
I rise to grieve for people with a mental illness who are unable to access care unless they are in crisis. I grieve for people with a disability and their carers who wonder if they will ever get accommodation or even some respite care. I grieve for abused and neglected children who are repeatedly bounced around in the government's out-of-home careā¦
Children Legislation Amendment Bill
It gives me pleasure to rise to speak on the Children Legislation Amendment Bill 2009. I am pleased to say that the opposition will be supporting this bill. In fact, opposition members believe it is long overdue. We also support the amendments that have just been circulated.
Disability Services: Consultation
I raise a matter for the attention of the Minister for Community Services. The action I seek is for this government to put an end to its farcical approach to consultation and establish genuine systems of listening, engagement and discussion on matters of importance in which communities, families and individuals can have confidence.
Children: protection services
Today I grieve for the state of Victoria's child protection workforce. I also grieve for our most vulnerable children who have been victims of neglect and abuse and who are not getting the protection they need because of the Brumby Labor government's failure to address this crisis in our child protection workforce.
Appropriation (2009/2010) Bill
Each year for the last 10 years millions of Victorians have waited with bated breath for a budget that will deliver the services they desperately need, services such as public transport, health, education and community services, and each year they continue to be disappointed.
Budget: government initiatives
I must say it is incredibly disappointing that we are here today debating this matter of public importance (MPI) in which the government seeks to be self-congratulatory and to promote its own budget, which we will continue to debate when we deal with the budget legislation.
GriefLine: funding
The Brumby government continues its approach of intimidating and bullying small community organisations. For almost six months GriefLine and its 132 trained volunteers have been unsure whether they will have to close their doors or will be funded to continue their valuable work.
Disability services: funding
Disability organisations need a commitment from this government in the upcoming budget that they will be funded at a level which ensures that the sector is sustainable and able to continue to deliver high-quality services for vulnerable Victorians.
Bushfire Condolence Speech
This week the Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a condolence motion for the Victorian bushfires.
