The Minister for Community Services today again showed why she is not fit to remain the Minister responsible for protecting Victoria’s most vulnerable children, Shadow Minister for Community Services Mary Wooldridge said today.
Last month it was revealed that mandatory police checks had not been carried out on carers, resulting in the Brumby Government delivering at least one vulnerable Victorian child to a convicted sex offender.
"When asked today to reassure Victorians that all children in care were now being looked after by carers with a valid police check, the Minister failed to provide that reassurance," Ms Wooldridge said.
"In August this year, it was revealed that 2,000 at-risk and abused children on the Government’s books had not yet been allocated a case manager to help them get the support and care they need.
"When asked today to outline the number of at-risk and abused children who were still not allocated a case manager, the Minister appeared confused and failed to answer the question.
"The Minister’s performance today showed again that she excels only at Labor’s standard practice of spouting empty rhetoric without taking the necessary action to protect Victoria’s most vulnerable children.
"The Minister’s incompetence knows no bounds.
"The unfortunate casualties of her incompetence and inaction are Victoria’s most at-risk and abused children," Ms Wooldridge said.
