Campaigns in Doncaster I am passionate advocate for our community and since my election have joined or initiaited a number of residents campaigns aimed at improving services or facilities in Doncaster. I believe grass roots activism plays an important role in enhancing the lifestyle of not only our families but our neighbours and those we meet through local sporting or interest groups. I’ve been actively working with residents on a wide range of issues including our limited public transport, delays for hospital treatment, waiting lists to access affordable housing, planning inconsistencies and the need for local roads and schools to be upgraded and maintained. I encourage all residents who feel strongly about an issue to speak up and join with others in our community to improve our services and facilities. Here are some of the campaigns I am currently involved with: Have a say in Social Housing – The Government has announced that 98 social and affordable housing units will be built in a multi-storey development on Tram Road. If you want to tell the Brumby Government that it should listen to our community about decisions which affect us, I urge you to download this petition, sign it, get your friends and family to sign it and return it to my office. Rebuild Box Hill Hospital - I have been calling on the Brumby Government to provide much needed funding for the full upgrade of Box Hill Hospital. The hospital’s facilities are outdated and unsuitable and while the hospital plays an important role in the health of people in Melbourne’s East, it is clearly in dire need of an upgrade. Bring back the 289 bus – In November 2008 the Government changed our local bus services. While some of these changes have been of benefit, the removal of the 289 bus service has caused major disruptions for many Doncaster residents. Click here to sign my petition to have the service reinstated. You can also join the facebook group "Save the 289 Bus Service!". Eastlink Noise – The opening of Eastlink has resulted in many Donvale residents experiencing very high noise levels especially due to truck brakes. I have been working with residents in efforts to have additional noise abatement measures. Click here to sign a petition on this issue. Sale of the Eastern Golf Club – The sale of the EGC land for residential housing will be a loss of valuable parkland in Doncaster. I am working to ensure that as much open space as possible is retained when the land is developed. Breast Cancer Awareness – I have had a longstanding commitment to increase breast cancer awareness among our community. Each October I run a Mini Field of Women to raise breast cancer awareness at The Pines Shopping Centre. Mini Fields are an initiative of the Breast Cancer Network Australia, an organisation of which I have previously been a Director. I am currently a Director of The Otis Foundation, a network of retreats, founded by my husband, which provide accommodation free of charge for women while dealing with this disease.
