Daniel Andrews never misses an opportunity to blame everyone else for his failures.
Unfortunately for nurses and midwives they have not been a priority for Daniel Andrews.
Amendments to the Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios Bill have been in the pipeline for years. A taskforce was convened in 2015 and reported to the Minister on improvements to the ratios in 2017. Their report sat on the Ministers desk until August this year when the Government belatedly introduced a Bill to Parliament adjusting the ratios.
This week Labor prioritised consideration of the Bill 6th out of 6 and failed to bring it on for debate until 11.30pm on Thursday night.
If Daniel Andrews was serious about improving care for patients through ratio changes he should have brought the Bill into Parliament earlier, prioritised the Bill for debate on Tuesday or even Thursday morning or had the Parliament sit on Friday, as we have in 6 recent sitting weeks.
Comment attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge:
“Daniel Andrews is all blame and no responsibility.
Daniel Andrews had many opportunities to prioritise nurses and patients, but every time he chose not to.
The Liberal Nationals voted in favour of enhanced ratios for nurses, midwives and patients and it’s only because Daniel Andrews left it until the 11th hour that this Bill has now not passed.”
